Placement Testing

NHTI uses multiple measures to determine first-time Math and English course selection. New students are required to meet with an advisor to decide on their academic plan and determine if placement testing is needed.

If you meet the SAT requirements below or have a high school GPA of 3.2 or applicable transfer credits, you may be waived from a placement test. 

If you submit SAT scores that are <5 years old, you may be waived from taking certain placement tests.

• A math SAT score of 530 or higher places you directly into college-level math and waives you from taking the math placement test.
• A critical reading and writing SAT score of 480 or higher waives you from taking the reading placement test.
• An essay SAT score range of 6-8 places you directly into college-level English and waives you from taking the writing placement test.

If you think you’re eligible to be waived, you must submit official documentation to the NHTI Admissions Office prior to meeting with your advisor.
