Competitive snowshoeing is a growing by leaps and bounds in the northeast. The Nationals championship was held last Saturday March 1 at Woodford Vermont. Competitors had to qualify at local races in order to be eligible to compete.
Three members of the NHTI Running Club qualified and competed. All three had very little experience with this sport before this year. Nacho Hernando was 8th overall with a time of 44:40 for the 10K course. Quinn Parker finished 42nd overall and fifth in his age group with a time of 51:55. Coach Tom Walton was 148th and third in his age group with a time of 1:08:57.

NHTI will host the 10th Annual NHTI/Northeast Delta Dental 5K benefit road race on Friday, April 18 at 6 pm, attracting an anticipated 500 runners and walkers. Following the race, a special free “kids” race will be held starting at 6:45 pm.
“The 10th anniversary race will be special in so many different ways, with some cash prizes in addition to the special prizes, a silent auction, and the carnival atmosphere that will be created pre- and post-race,” says road race Co-chairman Paul Hogan, NHTI’s Director of Athletics.
The race benefits the Jen Kemp scholarship fund for NHTI students who excel in the classroom, perform community service, and are active in NHTI student life. Participation in the race continues has grown each year, and as part of the Capital Area Race Series (CARS) the race attracts many runners and families from the greater Concord area.
