On Thursday February 6, the "Capital Wheelers" (Granite State Independent Living and NHTI students) once again faced off against their arch-rivals the "All-Stars" (NHTI employees) in the 12th Annual Zech DeVits Wheelchair Basketball Benefit, co-sponsosred by the NH Spinal Cord Injury Association. This event raises funds through admissions, concessions, and a 50/50 raffle to help purchase assistive technology for NHTI students with disabilities.
This year's Wheelers included Tom Warner, Michael Martineau, Brendan Libby, Brian Fox, Phyllis Brooks, Jen Gorsuch, and Co-Captains Ken Hazeltine and Mark Race. The All-Stars featured Perry Seagroves, Deb Smith, Jessie Wagner, Peter Connor, Ashley Plante, Paul Hogan, Aaron Conn, Mike Moffett and Captain Chuck Lloyd. The final score was 20-18 in favor of the All-Stars, thanks to a last second tie-breaker thrown by Paul Hogan.
Brandon Bentley and Demetrius Rouse of the men's basketball team served as referees. Alumnus Justin Colby was the announcer for the event.
Sponsors and supporting organizations included the NHTI Student Senate, Social Science Club, Human Service Club, Campus Activities Board, Alternative Spring Break Club, Sports Management Club, and NHTI Accessibility Services.
