Students Get a Faster, Cost-Effective Path to Advanced DA Training
CONCORD, NH—Thanks to a generous grant from Northeast Delta Dental, the Business Training Center (BTC) at NHTI – Concord’s Community College is better addressing current workforce demands for trained dental assistants by developing a Dental Assistant Microcredential training that provides a faster, more cost-effective path for dental practices to secure training for their dental assistants.
The result will be more highly trained dental assistants who can help increase capacity in their dental practices through the online and hands-on clinical training they receive from experienced clinical instructors from NHTI’s Allied Dental Education program.
The Microcredential is designed for dental assistants already working in dental practices with 400 hours of chairside experience but do not have formal training. Dental assistants completing the 5-course microcredential earn stackable badges along the way and a verified digital badge for completing the microcredential training. The cost of the program is $2,995 – well below the cost of other programs offered in the state. The first session starts Sept. 24, 2022. Those interested are encouraged to sign up now to take advantage of this inaugural training program.
Participants must complete all training sessions in order to be awarded the Dental Assistant Microcredential. Hands-on clinical labs take place Saturdays, except the Techniques in Radiology training which is held on Fridays. Upon completion of the Microcredential, students will be prepared to take the Radiation Health and Safety exam and, once successfully passed, will have complied with the New Hampshire Board of Dental Examiners (NHBODE) rules. After completing 3,500 hours of on-the-job training at their dental practices, dental assistants will then be eligible to take additional Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) testing.
