Tickets are $3 for 1 and $10 for 4, and are available from any Dental Hygiene student or Donna Gleeson in MacRury Hall Room 142.  The drawing will be held on May 1, 2015. The winner will be notified by telephone.

SADHA is a community-service based student organization that works to educate the public about oral health and its role in overall general health.  SADHA participates in many different events statewide, including an annual “Oral Health Wellness Fair” at the Concord Boys & Girls Club in Concord; a multi-city event sponsored by the NH Literacy Foundation held in Laconia, Littleton and Penacook; an Oral Health Fair at The Edgewood Centre Nursing Home/Day Care Center; and the Special Olympics event at UNH in Durham.  SADHA also donates several hundred toothbrushes and other oral health products to various organizations throughout New Hampshire (and overseas) utilizing their fundraising dollars.  Our student hygienists have a real desire to help out in their community!

A very special thanks goes out to Contoocook River Canoe Co., LLC for providing the kayak, and to Denutte’s Delights for providing the professional raffle tickets for this fundraising event!

Jane Yen Wings of Knowledge presents:
Culture in Many Societies
with Jane Yen

Tuesday, April 7
6 - 8 pm
Library Living Room

NHTI has a surprisingly diverse campus community, with students from over 50 countries of origin.  Every April, the school’s monthly Wings of Knowledge lecture series invites one of the college’s foreign students to share insights of his or her home and culture with the campus and the wider community.

On Tuesday April 7, Wings of Knowledge presents Jane Yen (above right), a General Studies student who aspires to become a cardiovascular surgeon.  A U.S. resident for 10+ years, Jane originally hails from South Sudan, one of the world’s newest countries.

Recently featured in the documentary "Who Am I Going to Be?," produced by Lynn Clowes and funded by the NH Humanities Council, Jane said, “Since the age of five years old, I always wanted to be a doctor because of the conflict that I saw going on in my hometown in South Sudan.  Many people were dying and I just remember having to wait in line – a long line – waiting for a doctor.  So seeing people suffer every day made me feel really bad.  And I felt like I had a purpose to do something in life where I can give back what God has given me – the opportunity to be here.  I’m so thankful.”

Come learn about the country’s history, and the causes of the conflict leading up to the split of Sudan, along with the culture, food, and customs of this rich and beautiful place.  The event is free and open to the public.

Launched in 2001-02, Wings of Knowledge is an annual series of cultural events presented by the college.  All events are free and open to the public.  The series supports and expands upon NHTI’s wide variety of academic offerings, and is another element in the college’s expanding community college mission.  For further information call (603) 230-4028.
