Campus Reads presents:
Cool Hand Luke

Cool Hand Luke posterWednesday, February 10
Sweeney Auditorium
7:00 - 9:00 pm

Campus Reads proudly presents the classic film Cool Hand Luke, starring Paul Newman.  The film tells the story of a man sentenced to a rural prison, who fails to conform.

Critic Roger Ebert says, “All these years after the release of Cool Hand Luke in 1967, all you have to do is say, ‘What we have here is -- failure to communicate.’  Everyone knows the line, and everyone can identify the film, even those who may not have seen it.  . . .  Rarely has an important movie star suffered more, in a film wall-to-wall with physical punishment, psychological cruelty, hopelessness and equal parts of sadism and masochism.”

The film is being shown as part of a year-long series concerning incarceration sponsored by The Eye and its Campus Reads team.  The next event will be a discussion of Stephen King’s novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, which will be held Tuesday, February 23, at noon in the Campus Bistro, along with a book swap, with remaining books being donated to individuals in prison.
