Men’s and Women’s Basketball Season Preview
The 2013-2014 Basketball season has arrived. Both NHTI men’s and women’s teams have reason to be optimistic going into the season, but will need to work hard to accomplish their ultimate goal of a USCAA Championship.
The NHTI men’s basketball team will once again be lead by veteran coach and NHTI Athletic Director Paul Hogan. Hogan will be assisted by Simon Keeling, Jordan Fithian, and Andrew York.
This year’s team features only a very select number of returners which is very different than the 2012-13 season. The veterans who will contribute to the Lynx this season are Demetrious Rouse (Detroit, MI), Ryan Sweeney (Hudson), Luke Hanscom (Manchester) and Bujar Syla (Manchester). The Lynx have a very strong group of young players who will be relied on heavily this year. Another name of note is former High School standout and Plymouth State University player Curtis Williams (Newmarket).
As always, the Lynx will feature fast, action packed basketball. Once again this season the YSCC figures to be very competitive, and the Lynx will have to battle all season long to get back to the USCAA National Tournament.
Hogan and the Lynx opened their season last weekend when they hosted the Edward Jones Tap-Off Tournament. The Lynx are 1-2 on the season so far.
Coach Kevin Gibbs returns for his third season as the coach of the NHTI women’s basketball program. He will once again be assisted by Curt Martin. Also joining Coach Gibbs on the sideline this year is Jen Fithian.
Much like the men’s basketball team, the women are bringing back a few players from last year, but are also folding many new faces and names into the mix. Returning to play this winter are YSCC second team All-Conference Players Sara Romano (Lebanon) and Allura LeBlanc (Northwood). Danielle Kimball of Derry also returns to the Lynx for the 2013-14 season.
The Lynx will face very strong YSCC and USCAA completion this season, and will have to battle from day one if they hope to get a spot in the YSCC play-off’s and ultimately the USCAA National Tournament.
The women opened up on Tuesday the fifth when they traveled to YSCC foe Hampshire College and won by the score of 64-39.
