NHTI to Host YSCC Playoffs
Next weekend, from Thursday Feb 19 through Sunday Feb 22, NHTI will host the YSCC Men's and Women's Basketball Elite 8 Championship Playoffs. (See schedule in the yellow box at bottom right of this page.) The featured teams will include NHTI, Central Maine Community College, the College of St. Joseph, Eastern Maine Community College, the University of Maine at Augusta, Southern Maine Community College, the University of Maine at Machias, and Vermont Technical College.
Brackets are yet to be determined pending the results of games played between now and the playoffs. Watch the Lynx Athletics web site for details as they unfold.
The price of an All-Tournament Pass is $15 (students $10). A Day Pass costs $8 (students $5). Come to the games and cheer on your team! Go Lynx!
Competitive snowshoeing is becoming the next big thing in this area. Nearly 100 people completed the 7K Horse Hill Snowshoe Race on Saturday February 7. The following NHTI shoers completed the race: Derek Burton (8th in 40:49, 1st in age group), Tim Kneuer (11th in 43:03, 1st in age group), Greg Keilig (15th in 44:45, 2nd in age group), Tom Walton (22nd in 47:53, 2nd in age group), Oscar Castillo (27th in 49:21), Nick Cote (32nd in 50:33), and Julia Glisson (85th in 1:16:50, 2nd in age group).
The 2015 World Snowshoe Championships were held on January 31 in Quebec City. NHTI alum and All American cross country runner Nacho Hernando (left) finished 10th overall. He was the fastest competitor from his home country, Spain.
