NHTI Hosts Holiday Inn New Years Basketball Tournaments

Men Take Championship; Richard Named Player of the Week

On Saturday and Sunday, January 11 & 12, NHTI, hosted the Holiday Inn Men’s and Women’s New Years Basketball Tournaments, featuring Quinsigamond Community College, Roxbury Community College and the University of Maine Augusta for the men, and Massasoit Community College, Berkeley College (NYC) and U-Maine Augusta for the women.

In the first women’s game on day one, Massasoit topped NHTI 59-47.  The leaders for the Lynx were Sara Romano (Lebanon) 17 with points and seven rebounds, and Allura LeBlanc (Northwood) with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  In game two Berkeley College squeezed by U-Maine Augusta 61-55.

In the first men’s game of day one, NHTI topped Quinsigamond Community College 73-64.  Leading the Lynx were Demetrius Rouse (Detroit, MI) with 23 points, Ethan Rutledge (Curacao) with 11 points and eight rebounds, and Curtis Williams (Newmarket) with 11 points and eight rebounds.  In the second men’s game Roxbury defeated U-Maine Augusta 100-75.

In the women’s consolation game on Sunday, NHTI fell to U-Maine Augusta 74-57.  Topping the stat sheet for the Lynx were Danielle Kimball (Derry) with 14 points and five rebounds, Jessica Wagner (Conway) with 15 points and seven rebounds, and Thalia Garcia (Nashua) with 13 points.  Berkeley College won the women’s championship game over Massasoit 65-49.

Jordan RichardIn the men’s consolation game Quinsigamond Community College snuck by U-Maine Augusta 101-94.  In the men’s championship game NHTI topped Roxbury Community College 78-69.  Jordan Richard (Raymond) with 20 points and 10 assists, Rouse with 16 points and five rebounds, and Dorea Wilson (Detroit, MI) with 11 points and six rebounds were the highlights for the Lynx.

For their efforts all tournament long the following NHTI athletes were named to the All Tournament Team: Ryan Sweeney, Jordan Richard – MVP, and Cassie LaCroix.  Richard was subsequently named the YSCC men's basketball Player of the Week in honor of his performance in this tournament.
