DESCRIPTION:French film director Henri-Georges Clouzot is noted for his suspenseful thrillers like THE WAGES OF FEAR (1953) and DIABOLIQUE (1955). A superb earlier (and lesser known) example of his highly influential talent is QUAI DES ORFEVRES (1947)–a\npolice procedural exploring the troubles of post-war France with telling character portraits. When a wealthy\, lecherous old man is murdered\, there is no shortage of suspects. The investigation is led by a seasoned police inspector (Louis Jouvet) and centers on the jealous husband (Bernard Blier) of a beautiful dance hall performer (Suzy Delair). The noirish B&W cinematography is stunning! This annual event commemorates Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen’s discovery of the X-ray on November 8\, 1895\, a groundbreaking moment that changed medicine forever. \nThis year’s theme\, “The Kaleidoscope of Radiologic Technology\,” beautifully captures the diverse range of specialties and procedures that these experts perform every day. From X-rays and CT scans to MRIs and mammograms\, our talented rad techs are crucial to providing accurate diagnoses\, guiding treatments\, and ensuring patient safety. \nCome by MacRury Hall on Tuesday or Wednesday for breakfast goodies\, or come meet current first-year students in the Student Center on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30-11. Learn about the program and profession and win prizes. \nWe will be hiding paper skeleton pieces throughout campus. Find a bone and bring it to M112 for a prize!! \n

With so many memorable films to choose from\, a representative choice was difficult to make. We decided on THE STING (1973)—in which Redford marvelously plays a Depression-era grifter who instigates an elaborate con to avenge a friend’s death. He received his only “Best Actor” Oscar nomination for this performance as Johnny Hooker. But he\, along with Brando\, Nicholson and Pacino lost to Jack Lemmon that year!
