Utilizing viewings, lectures, and class discussion and emphasizing film theory, criticism, and history, this course explores the origins of film noir and examines pre-noir films but also film noir of the classic period as well as those of the post-classic and modern periods. (Prerequisite: ENGL 101C or equivalent, or permission of the department chair. An introductory-level literature course is highly recommended.)
