Traces American literature through 1865. Students read representative major, as well as minor, writers from all literary periods and various movements. Readings are set in the cultural contexts in which they were created. (Prerequisite: ENGL 101C or equivalent, or permission of the department chair. An introductory-level literature course is highly recommended.) Available in online format.
