Preliminary Oral Inspection (POI)- Hybrid Format- Hands on
Preliminary Inspection of the Oral Cavity - This covers the Introduction to Dental Assisting in 302.06. With online and hands-on components, this course prepares dental assistants to perform a preliminary oral inspection on patients and includes taking medical/dental histories, obtaining/reading vital signs, basic oral anatomy and terminology, and dental charting. Participants must complete assignments online prior to clinical portion. (Course not required for dental assistant graduates from ADA accredited programs; course not appropriate for RDH.)

Infection Control Practice (ICP) Hybrid Format- Hands on
With online and hands-on components, course topics include barrier techniques, limiting contamination, hand washing, handling of sharps, sterilization, disinfection, and disposal of waste materials. Participants must complete assignments online prior to clinical portion. Course not designed to meet annual OSHA training requirement. (Course not required for dental assistant graduates from ADA accredited programs.)

Orthodontics Duties for the Dental Assistant: Hands-on
This course qualifies the orthodontic dental assistant to perform those expanded orthodontic duties designated by the NH Board of Dental Examiners.

Temporary Crown & Bridge Fabrication: Hybrid- Hands on
This training qualifies the dental assistant, according to the NH Board of Dental Examiners’ regulations.  The focus is on techniques and materials used in temporary fabrication, finishing margins, and duplicating tooth anatomy.

-Two (2) models of the same tooth, one before the prep was done, and one after the prep was done. (Both models need to have the soft tissue around the prep.)

Coronal Polishing for the Dental Assistant:  Hybrid Format- Hands on
Participants must provide a patient for the second clinical session, and treat 5 patients under the supervision of a NH dentist between clinical sessions.

Dental Sealants: Hybrid Format – Hands on
Lecture and clinical sessions provide an in-depth study of dental sealants. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, the participant will be qualified to legally apply sealants in NH.
A patient requiring sealants on at least four occlusal surfaces must be provided by the participant.  Patients under 12 years of age will need instructor approval.

Techniques in Dental Radiology for Dental Assistants: Hybrid Format - Hands-On!
On-line lectures and learning activities are coordinated with laboratory practice to develop dental radiographic techniques. Students are required to schedule two clients. Techniques covered include: digital radiography, processing, mounting and evaluating films.  Emphasis placed on client and operator protection, exposure and processing errors, asepsis protocol, radiographic techniques and equipment function. Following this course, passing of RHS portion of DANB exam is required according to NH law.

Getting to the Roots (and incisal edges) of Digital Radiographs:
Are the apices and/or incisal edges MIA in your radiographs? The benefits outweigh the challenges of digital radiography, but there are tips and tricks to obtain great radiographs. This course will help participants understand and apply projection geometry in order to make adjustments in angulations to capture the apices and incisal edges of radiographs and avoid overlap errors.

Administration of Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist Hybrid Format- Hands On
Course lectures for this introductory study of the concepts and techniques of delivering intraoral anesthesia are provided online and coordinated with clinical practice. Emphasis is on the prediction and prevention of medical complications. Curriculum includes head and neck anatomy, armamentarium, pharmacology, neurophysiology, patient evaluation and management, record keeping and risk management. The goal is to safely select and administer adequate local anesthesia for use in painless periodontal treatment. Course consists of 24 lecture hours and 12 clinical hours in which students practice injection techniques on partners under the supervision of NH-licensed dentists and qualified dental hygienists. Medical Records Management:
This required class meets once as a group, followed by individual completion of required online activities. Topics discussed assist public health dental hygienists to understand and comply with legal requirements to properly handle patient medical records. Key concepts of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and NH law regarding client abuse are included. Participants draft a Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) and are required to complete learning activities prior to class end date.
