The Class of 2013 will celebrate the 63rd NHTI Commencement on Friday, May 17, 2013. It is important for graduates to be aware of the details of the Commencement ceremony, and of the steps they must take prior to May 17.
NHTI welcomes families and guests to the Commencement ceremony. This occasion celebrates the achievements of someone special to you. Thank you for joining the celebration!
Graduation is held under a tent on the lawn behind Little Hall regardless of weather conditions. Please plan accordingly. Graduation begins promptly at 10 am. It is anticipated that it will end between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m.

- Degrees & Commencement
NHTI holds one Commencement ceremony in May of each year. Students who complete their degree program requirements during the summer and fall semesters will be invited to participate in the subsequent May commencement ceremony. Degrees are officially awarded at the end of each semester. All diplomas are mailed to each graduate within five (5) days after the award dates.
- Caps and Gowns
Beginning April 30, 2013 you may pick up your cap and gown in the NHTI Bookstore, after checking the status of your account at the Bursar's Office.
If you think you need a specialty size gown, please go to the NHTI Bookstore to be measured no later than April 2, 2013.
If you have earned Honors or High Honors, a gold tassel will be given to you on graduation morning prior to the start of the processional.
- Phi Theta Kappa Members
All Phi Theta Kappa regalia can be purchased through the Phi Theta Kappa website. Members wishing to wear Phi Theta Kappa regalia are responsible for ordering their own. Phi Theta Kappa members will be acknowledged in the program.
- Attending Commencement
- Guest Announcements
Five commencement announcements will be mailed to each graduate. Graduates may invite as many guests to the ceremony as they wish.
- Guest Parking
Parking is on a first-come first-served basis; therefore, we suggest that guests arrive as early as possible. Handicap parking is available for those in need.
Chairs are available for all members of the graduating class. Additional chairs are available, first-come first-served, for families and guests.
- Guests with Disabilities
If you have someone attending graduation who is in need of disability accommodations, please contact the Coordinator of Disabilities Services at (603) 271-6484 x4117 to make these arrangements no later than May 7, 2012. Space is set aside for those requiring special accommodations. One person may accompany each person requiring special accommodation.
- Instructions for Graduates
- Before the Ceremony
Please arrive no later than 8:30 am. Please report to the room in Sweeney Hall where your academic program has been assigned. (Please see room assignments. The NHTI receptionist will also have this information on graduation day.) At 9:30 each program will meet at Little Hall and be lined up for the processional march.
- During the Ceremony
After you march in, you will remain standing through the singing of America the Beautiful. (Men should remove their caps for the singing of America the Beautiful.)
Degree candidates by academic programs will be announced. Degree candidates should wait at the designated location at the bottom of the ramp in front of the stage until their name is called.
Individuals may not be accompanied by anyone when receiving their degree unless they are in need of accommodation. Graduates should shake hands as they cross the stage.
After receiving your degree return to your seat, but please remain standing until your entire academic program has received their degrees/diplomas. The entire academic program will sit down as a group.
- Graduates earning more than one degree
Please choose which academic program you wish to sit with and report to that room on graduation morning. Your name will be called for both degrees. When your name is called the second time, you are responsible for getting yourself into line in the correct alphabetical order. You will return to the seat where you were for the conferring of your first degree.
- It is expected that graduates will remain for the entire Commencement ceremony.
- The Recessional
The Recessional will begin with the people on the stage, followed by faculty and students.
- If you cannot attend Commencement, you must notify the Registrar's Office at email@example.com or (603) 230-4014 prior to the end of April. Please include your name, degree program, and current mailing address. If you are unable to attend the ceremony, your diploma will be mailed to you the week following graduation.
- Commencement Photography
Photography is permitted at Commencement. In addition, photography services will be provided by photographers from GRADTRAK® Graduation Images.
Take advantage of this opportunity to capture the graduation moment in your official academic regalia. Photographers from GRADTRAK® Graduation Images will be available to take portraits of graduates from 8-9 a.m. on the second floor balcony of the Student Center.
- Commencement Photos
GRADTRAK® Graduation Images is the official photographer for our Commencement. Proofs will be sent to your home and via email within three to five days after graduation. Pictures can be ordered online, by phone or by mail. GRADTRAK® Graduation Images can be contacted at 800-261-2576 or via email at www.gradimages.com.
Registering with GRADTRAK® Graduation Images provides them with the information they need to deliver your graduation proofs to you in a timely manner. Giving them an accurate mailing address and email address will allow them to get your proofs to you on the first try. You may also provide them with email addresses of up to six friends and family members to allow them to celebrate in the accomplishment.
