Three New Nursing Profs

This semester, NHTI’s Nursing program welcomes three new full-time faculty members.  Although two are alumnae, all three bring unique backgrounds and perspectives to the department which will help enrich our students’ learning experience.

Catherine Cuchetti, Kelly Taylor and Amy Thompson

Kelley Taylor earned her BA at UNH, and then came to NHTI for an associate degree in Nursing.  She spent many years as an emergency room nurse, specializing in telemetry or cardiac monitoring.  Eventually she returned to UNH for an MS in Nursing so that she would be able to teach.  She has worked as an adjunct at St. Anselm’s and “many other places,” but wanted to come back to NHTI where her career began.  She will be teaching pediatric and medical/surgical nursing for the program.

Kelley has three grown children, and “various cats and dogs who still live at home.”  She is also a world traveler who has been – among other places – to Greece, Italy, Paris, Spain, the Canary Islands, England, Scotland and Haiti!

Catherine Cuchetti never went to college, but went straight into a career as an insurance adjuster.  Later in life, she decided she wanted to do something more fulfilling, and nursing became her second career.  She started with an associate degree at NHTI, and went on for a bachelors and an MSN at Rivier.  She has the unique distinction of being a member of the last graduating class of Rivier College, and having taught the first graduating class of Rivier University.

Catherine worked at Catholic Medical Center, specializing in cardiovascular surgical nursing.  “Hearts I can handle; broken hips make me nervous.”  She has taught as an adjunct at Rivier, but says she is “ready to come home” to NHTI.

Catherine enjoys cooking, is a short film aficionado, and a devoted fan of the band “Simple Minds.”  She has been to Europe three times to see them, and also went to the Patriots game in London 2012.

Amy Thompson started out with a BSN at the University of Southern Maine, and then earned a Master of Science in Nursing Informatics from Walden University.  Informatics, she says, is the science of transforming data to information to knowledge to wisdom.  “We use more and more technology in the nursing profession these days.  I felt nurses needed to be more involved with selection, implementation, and education of new technology.”

Amy started out in the pediatric unit at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, and spent 13 years on the emergency unit.  She also worked in case management for 4 years.  Although she never intended to teach, she was offered an adjunct position and found that teaching became a passion.  She has since taught at Mass College of Pharmacy, Great Bay and Franklin Pierce, and jumped at the chance to work full time at NHTI, where she will be focusing on pediatrics.

Amy has two children, ages 10 and 11, and enjoys hiking, camping and gardening.

Amy, Catherine and Kelley ... welcome to the NHTI family!
