Concord – NHTI's Eighth Annual Celebration of Women in History Banquet on March 31, 2009, features longtime New Hampshire environmentalists Nancy Girard and Ruth Smith in "Women: Taking the Lead to Save Our Planet." The event takes place from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott/Grappone Conference Center in Concord. Registrations must be received by March 13th, and no tickets will be sold at the door.

Smith, an environmental educator, and Girard, an attorney specializing in environmental issues, will explore well-known role models such as Rachel Carson and Jane Goodall, as well as some unsung heroines. They will also talk about today's environmental challenges, and opportunities to raise awareness, teach about ecological systems and human interaction with them, and engage citizens in action for both the health of the planet and the well-being of those who call it home.

Chamber music will be provided by Infinities.

Registration for the hors d'oeuvres reception, dinner, and program is $35 ($10 for NHTI students with valid ID). For further information and registration materials call Gyme Hardy at 271-6983 or .
