Concord – Tuition at NHTI, Concord's Community College has been set for the 2011-2012 academic year at $210 per credit for in-state students. This is an increase of 7.7% over 2010-11. The change will add approximately $225 per semester to the in-state tuition costs for a full-time student, bringing the tuition costs to about $3,150 per semester.
The increase is a result of the largest reduction in state funding for the community colleges in the System's history, a 20% reduction from the current level. State support for NHTI dropped from an FY2011 level of $9 million to an FY2012 level of $6.7 million. At the same time, NHTI enrollment is at an all-time high, having increased 14.8% in fall 2009 and 10% in the fall of 2010.
NHTI serves more than 4,500 learners annually, 98% of whom are New Hampshire residents. Associate degree and certificate programs prepare students for skilled employment and for transfer to four-year colleges and universities.
"We are very aware of the hardship this will cause our students as they pursue their academic, career and personal goals," says NHTI President Lynn Kilchenstein. "The increase in tuition is necessary to maintain the quality of our programs, which prepare New Hampshire people to enter the work place and to continue their education at four-year institutions."
In addition to the increase in tuition, NHTI will meet the budget shortfall by reducing costs, including keeping many positions vacant, restructuring workload assignments, and deferring purchases of equipment and maintenance projects.
NHTI, Concord's Community College, is a fully accredited, public community college serving students, businesses and the community by providing excellent academic, technical and professional education. NHTI offers over 60 academic programs to more than 4,500 students. NHTI is a member of the Community College System of New Hampshire.
