Concord – On Tuesday December 1st at 7:00 pm in the Library Living Room, NHTI will present the next of its free public Wings of Knowledge lectures, "The Renaissance of the Apprentice-trained Midwife in North America." This is a brief history of the social context that led to the reemergence of the midwife, followed by a spirited, personal account from the first midwife practicing in New Hampshire. Presenter Carol Leonard has delivered approximately 1,200 babies safely in their own homes, and is author of Lady's Hands, Lion's Heart: A Midwife's Saga.

Launched in 2001-02, Wings of Knowledge is an annual series of cultural events presented by the college. All events are free and open to the public. The series supports and expands upon NHTI's wide variety of academic offerings, and is another element in the college's expanding community college mission. Subsequent events in the series will include:

  • Celebration of National Engineers Week, co-sponsored by the NHTI Architectural Engineering Technology Club - February 16, 2010
  • Is There An Asian Longhorned Beetle in Your Garden?, with John Weaver - March 2, 2010
  • Culture in Many Societies: NHTI foreign students share insights of home and culture - April 6, 2010
  • History of an Artist's Development, with Jerry Lofaro - May 4, 2010
