Spring Workshop Series Begins March 28

Concord – This spring, NHTI offers a four-session workshop series on growing your own food, cosponsored by the UNH Cooperative Extension. From seed to table, learn basic gardening techniques to turn your backyard into a sustainable vegetable garden. Participants are welcome to attend one, two, three, or all four sessions. (Come to the first three sessions and join the fourth one for free!)

Session One: Site Selection
Where should you locate your garden? How large should the garden be? What type of soil do you have and need?

Session Two: Choosing Varieties and Planting
What are you going to grow? How many plants do you really need? How do you start plants from seed?
Date: April 18, 2009 - 9:00 am to noon
Price: $49

Session Three: Maintenance and Pest Management
What are your plant's nutritional needs? What is the safest way to control pests and weeds? What are the benefits of crop rotation?
Date: April 25, 2009 - 9:00 am to noon
Price: $49

Session Four: Farm Tour
Tour a local family farm to observe what they grow, how much they grow, and what cultural practices are involved.
