Concord – On Tuesday December 2nd at 7:00 pm, Carol R. Foss will speak in the NHTI Library Living Room as part of the college's Wings of Knowledge lecture series. Foss, who is a senior biologist with the Audubon Society of New Hampshire, has been visiting the Amazon rain forest since 2001 to study birds and bring aid to remote villages in northeastern Peru. In this presentation she shares glimpses of life in a world of palms, piranhas, and pink dolphins, where the nearest roads are hours away, water levels change 30 feet between seasons, and the jungle is the primary source of food and medicine.

Launched in 2001-02, Wings of Knowledge is an annual series of cultural events sponsored by the NHTI Forum. The series supports and expands upon NHTI's wide variety of academic offerings, and is another element in the college's expanding community college mission. Subsequent lectures in the series will include:

  • Douglas Lanier, author of Shakespeare and Modern Culture - February 3, 2009
  • Sadie Puglisi, Buying and Eating Local Food - March 3, 2009
  • Culture in Many Societies: NHTI students share their homeland cultures - April 7, 2009
  • John and Abigail Adams, as portrayed by Chuck Annal & Janet Hertzberg - May 5, 2009
