Meet Students, Alumni and Faculty at NHTI

Danielle Barrett

Danielle Barrett

Class of 2006 - High Honors
Major: Architectural Engineering Technology

"I chose NHTI straight out of high school for the low tuition, relatively small campus, and the ability to dive into my major without first taking two years of core classes. It was here that I gained valuable knowledge about construction techniques, computer aided design programs, and numerous friends and future professional contacts along the way. The professors were always available and encouraging, and the hands-on teaching style made NHTI stand out from all other schools. I plan to enter the work force with my degree because I feel my education in the field of AET has established a solid foundation which will ensure my success. I truly enjoyed my time here."

Business Administration
Student at Bryant College – winner of Dean Scholarship

"Going to NHTI was one of the best educational moves I have chosen. Their broad and challenging curriculum gave me the opportunity to pick the major that was right for me. With so many extra-curricular activities offered, it gave me the chance to meet new people and make new friends. The teachers at NHTI were very informative and gave the courage and motivation to pursue my bachelor's degree."

Officer Almedin Dzelic

Concord Police Dept.
NHTI 2003
A.S. Criminal Justice

"During my senior year in high school, I was trying to figure out where I would go to continue with my education. I heard about NHTI from one of my friends who was just graduating in engineering. Next thing I knew I signed up to study Criminal Justice. During my time at NHTI I learned so much about criminal justice and police work. The professors were great because they all had law enforcement experience. They combined their knowledge with textbook teaching so I got the best of both. Thanks to NHTI's CJ program, I was able to transfer all my credits and continue my education at Franklin Pierce College. Today I am a Concord Police Officer and very proud to be able to serve the community of Concord."

Kelly Genest

Business Administration Major
Technical Support Specialist
Office of Information Technology State of New Hampshire

"e;NHTI’s evening classes are perfect for me and fit into my busy schedule. What I have enjoyed so far at NHTI is the small classrooms, the instructor's support and knowledge, and how much the other students communicate and work together to help each other. Although I have only completed seven classes, I am already seeing familiar faces and truly believe that continuing my education played a role in my last two promotions."

Class of 2004
Computer Engineering Technology

"When I graduated from high school, I wanted to work in the Gaming Industry, but had no idea where to start. My counselor pointed me toward NHTI and its Computer Programming curriculum. Taking her advice was one of the best decisions I ever made. The courses at NHTI exposed me to a variety of programming languages, and the instructors patiently helped me learn the in and outs of object oriented programming.

The instructors paved the way to an internship at Turbine Entertainment Software, where I worked with a group of talented game designers. My education really paid off at the end of the internship when I was offered a full time position at Turbine, working on game systems programming for their Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games."

Class of 2006
Information Technology "I graduated from NHTI in 2006 with an Associates of Science in Information Technology. The classes I took at NHTI were really great and helped me to become an A+ Certified Computer Technician and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). My instructors were great, very supportive, and made going to class a lot of fun. Their depth of experience in the field gave valuable insight into how things “really” worked. After NHTI, I enrolled at Southern New Hampshire University to study for my Bachelors Degree in Technical Management. Since graduating in March 2007, I have a great job working in the Network Operations Center for Liberty Mutual, which monitors their networks worldwide. The technical skills I learned at NHTI really helped me to get this job. I am actually still enrolled at NHTI, taking the next level of Cisco networking certification classes (CCNP). I really enjoyed my time at NHTI and owe so much to all of the instructors that helped me get where I am today."

Dental Hygiene
Class of 2004
Dental Hygienist - Bara Dental Office, Hillsborough

"After graduating from the Dental Hygiene Program in 2004, I became employed by Dr. Thomas Bara in Hillsborough. His office a certainly been a wonderful place to grow and mature as a dental hygienist. I was quickly challenged with many situations that revealed just how much I had learned while attending NHTI . ON of the things that has not changed over time are the many hobbies and activities vying for my time. Coaching my little brother's soccer team, time with family and friends, involvement in our church and spending time at the barn are more than enough to keep me busy. I am truly grateful for all that I learned at NHTI, both inside and outside of the classroom."

"'I enrolled at NHTI not knowing what to expect. I wanted to put my life experiences to use and get a degree in Architectural Engineering Technology. My apprehension about going to college at this point of my life was quickly dispelled by the wonderful teaching and assistance I received. All my professors were approachable and helpful, and coupled with the Learning Center, all was within my reach. My education, both in the real world and at NHTI, allowed me to get the position I always desired, a designer at The H.L. Turner Group Inc.. Thanks to all of the staff and professors at NHTI who allowed me to reach my goal."

Class of 2007 - High Honors
Sports Management Major
Intern, NH Fisher Cats

"When I was a senior at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy, I was not sure of where I wanted to go to college, but NHTI has been the perfect fit for me. At NHTI, I have been able to pursue my Sports Management degree, as well as receiving other great opportunities. My success in the Sports Management program has earned me the role of Sports Information Intern for the college. Through this job I’ve met many great people through networking who will help me in the years to come. Your time at NHTI may only be two years, but the knowledge, connections and experience will last a lifetime."

NHTI Assistant Director of Computer Services

"I went to NHTI right out of high school. I liked their hardware and network-based classes … and once I’d earned my Associate Degree they helped me transfer to a four-year school for my Bachelor’s. Now I'm back at NHTI working as the Assistant Director of Computer Services."

Leeann Pierce

Leeann Pierce
President, NHTI Chapter of Phi theta Kappa
International Honorary Society

"I originally chose NHTI because it was the only school in NH that offered Radiologic Technology. The waiting list was long, so I began taking business classes, and am now a double major. The faculty engages students and makes it easy to learn; their passion for what they teach is contagious. I have met so many incredible people here, and have been able to develop my leadership skills through holding office for our honor society and attending conferences with Student Senate. Years from now, my memories made here at NHTI will be those I cherish most."

Chris Pope

Chris Pope, Paramedic, Class of 1979

NH Director of Homeland Security & Emergency Management
Former Chief, Concord Fire Dept.

"I have wonderful memories of my time as a student at NHTI. While it was a good number of years ago, I continue to value the friendships I made with fellow students, many of whom I have worked with in the fire service over the past twenty-five plus years. Perhaps the most rewarding part of my NHTI experience was the ability to learn something in the classroom and be able to immediately and directly apply it in the field. NHTI is one of the best kept secrets in the world of college education and we are so fortunate to have NHTI here in NH."

Shirley Rennie

Shirley Rennie

Class of 1976
NHTI Health Services Director & Professor of Nursing

"In 1976, the foundation of my nursing career was built here at NHTI. I returned to the College 20 years later and assumed the most exciting and rewarding position in my 30 years of nursing. I teach our nursing students about caring for people in the community. They develop their skills by performing service learning projects. Another dimension of my job requires my nurse practitioner expertise as Health Services Director. In this role, I lead our Critical Incident Response Team in drafting our pandemic influenza planning, and when our students aren’t feeling well and need a check-up, I’m there for them. I have the best job in the world! Thanks, NHTI!""

Bill Shurbert

"I came to NHTI as a student to pursue a career in the computer science field. NHTI provided me with a solid background in information technology and the necessary skills to succeed in the high-tech business environment. As a professor, I’ve been able to bring real-life situations and personal experiences into the classroom which helps to create a learning environment that keeps the students interested and motivated to learn."

Animation and Graphic Game Programming Major

"I am really excited about the new AGGP degree program at NHTI. As soon as I saw the first course listed in the program of studies, I knew I had to try it out. After all, it was gaming that got me so interested in computers that I had signed up for the NHTI programming classes.

For my Computer Project, I was hoping for an internship where I could use my skills related to games and animation. My professor knew of a company right up my alley. I got hooked up with Hatchling Studios to help out in their interactive web/media department. Thanks mainly to the experience I gained through that first course in the AGGP degree, and from the other NHTI computer programming courses, I was soon working at Hatchling Studios on a full time basis. I love it!"

Dr. R. Stuart Wallace

Associate Professor of History

"NHTI represents opportunities—opportunities for students to study and learn in a friendly environment, opportunities for faculty to concentrate on classroom teaching, and opportunities for the entire NHTI community to participate in a great academic success story.  I am a wiser and better educated person for having had the opportunity to teach at NHTI."

Teacher Education Conversion Programs

"I feel privileged to attend classes at a small college with an intimate staff of teachers to guide me. I truly feel that the staff and I are working together as a team and that they are supporting me in my educational endeavor. The TECP program recognizes the value of my B.S. degree and allows me to apply it toward my teaching certification in Middle School Mathematics. It has also provided the flexibility necessary for me to juggle family, work, and school while making it feasible to complete my certification in just a little over a year. I have taken full advantage of the many 100% on-line courses."
