Men's Basketball

Paul Hogan is a Plymouth State graduate (1979 B.S./1988 MED) and a lifelong New Hampshire native. Dedicated to teaching and coaching his entire professional career, Paul Hogan has been recognized as one of the premier instructors of the game of basketball in the New England area. For the past 25 plus years, Coach Hogan has been directing camps and clinics in New Hampshire to improve basketball skills, develop positive self-esteem, and to learn the necessary ingredients to be a successful member of a "team."

In 2004-2005, the Capitals reached the "pinnacle of success," capturing the first ever national championship in basketball in the state of NH, leading NHTI to an incredible 31-3 overall record. The Capitals defeated Golden State Baptist of Santa Clara, Ca. 72-70 in the USCAA Division II National Championship game on March 5, 2005 at NHTI.

In his eight years at Plymouth State College, Paul Hogan compiled the highest winning percentage of any men's basketball coach in the school's history. His unique coaching style and dedication to the fundamentals of the game guided the Plymouth State Panthers to postseason play in the prestigious NCAA Tournament and numerous ECAC berths. Paul's commitment to teaching the game of basketball to players of all ages is at the heart of the success of his basketball camps.

He is presently the Men's Basketball Coach, Athletic Director, and a Professor in the Sports Management Program at NHTI, Concord's Community College in Concord, New Hampshire. NHTI was the USCAA Division II National Runner-Up in 2002, finishing at 29-4 record for the season, which is an NHTI school record. Hogan was also recognized as the USCAA national coach of the year in 2002. Hogan's NHTI teams have become recognized as teams that will annually compete for regional and national titles, compiling 23-8 and 23-7 seasons over the past two years!

Chuck Lloyd is a Keene State College graduate (2002 B.S. /P.E.) and a Plymouth State University graduate (2007 M.Ed.) and serves as a men's assistant basketball coach. Lloyd is currently the Coordinator of Campus Activities and Community Service Programs at NHTI. After four seasons, Coach Lloyd returns with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the camps after several years of helping with the NHTI Saturday morning clinics. His experience with many of the year round Paul Hogan basketball camps and clinics has proven to be very beneficial for the NHTI campus. His previous coaching experience was at Franklin High School under veteran coach Dave Pabst.

Andy Newcomb, Assistant Coach

Andy Newcomb is a graduate of Castleton State College (2003 BS/Criminal Justice) and NHTI (2000 AS/Criminal Justice). Coach Newcomb brings a great deal of energy to the Capitals while focusing on recruiting, scouting and player development. A former player in Coach Hogan’s first year at NHTI, Coach Newcomb also works at several of Coach Hogan’s summer camps, Coach Newcomb specializes in post player development and interior player moves.

Women's Basketball

Shelley Winters is a graduate of Marist College (1997/BA) and Marquette University (1999/ MA) and serves as the head women's basketball coach at NHTI. Coach Winters was a star three sport all-state athlete at Franklin High School and then played college basketball at Division I Marist College. Coach Winters has been the instrumental force behind developing NHTI's women's basketball program through recruiting efforts with an overall NHTI coaching record of 117-45. Coach Winters' teams have become the "envy" of small college basketball capturing YSCC titles, boasting 20+ win seasons and making USCAA Tournament appearances in five out her six seasons. She enters her seventh year at the helm of the Capitals after serving as an assistant coach her first year.

Curt Martin is a graduate of Cortland State College (1972 BS physical education) in Cortland, NY. He has been teaching physical education in the Hopkinton School District for 30 years and coaching at Hopkinton High School for 24 years. During that time he has coached junior varsity and varsity level girls' and boys' soccer, girls' and boys' basketball, and girls' lacrosse. Over that span Coach Martin has led the boys' soccer team to a state championship in 1984; the girls' soccer team to four state championships (1998, 1999, 2003, 2004); the girls' basketball team to a state championship in 2003; and has had 10 Final Four appearances in the past 11 seasons. He has also been the recipient of four Coach of the Year awards. He was a three season athlete while attending Hopkinton High School and played on championship teams in soccer, basketball, and golf. Coach Martin brings many years of coaching experience to the NHTI Women's Basketball program as an assistant coach.

Katie Stockton is a 2007 NHTI graduate (Radiologic Technology) and three time women's soccer USCAA All-American; Katie was the consummate team player and leader in soccer in high school (Stevens High School in Claremont) and college at NHTI. A prolific scorer, assist leader and tireless defender, she won numerous honors and awards during her playing career including high school awards Player of the Year and Best Female Scholar Athlete. At NHTI she was recognized as a Most Valuable Player and Outstanding Female Athlete among other awards. Katie has also had an extensive basketball playing career where she played at NHTI and in high school. She is entering her first year as a women's assistant basketball coach, she brings to the table lot's of enthusiasm and energy.

Men's Soccer

Derek Johnson is a graduate of the University of Maine at Machias (1991/BS) and serves as the head men's soccer coach at NHTI. Coach Johnson's former coaching experience involves men's soccer at Hesser College and University of Maine at Fort Kent, men's basketball at University of Maine at Fort Kent and women's basketball at University of Maine at Machias. Johnson also played basketball overseas in England for five years upon graduating from University of Maine at Machias in 1991 with a B.S. in Business Administration. "The goals for me as a coach is to have these guys realize their potential," Johnson said of his expectations. "For them to be the best they can be, as an athlete and student."

Baseball

Eric Duquette is a 2003 graduate of NHTI (AS/Computer Science) and is now entering his fifth season with NHTI's baseball, his first as head coach. Coach Duquette had been the head coach at Pittsfield High School since 1998 developing the Panthers into one of the elite Class 'S' programs in NH. In his 9 years at Pittsfield, he compiled a 118-54 record, including a State Championship in 2001, the schools first baseball championship in 40 years. His Panther teams went to 4 straight final fours, and he was Class 'M' Coach of the year in 2000 and Class 'S' Coach of the year in 2001.

Ben Forbes is a graduate of Keene State College (1998/BS Physical Education) and a graduate of Virginia Tech (2003/M.Ed.), he serves Bow High School as a high school Physical Education and Health Teacher and the head baseball coach. After a fine playing career as a catcher for KSC baseball team, Forbes led the Falcons to the Class M State title in 2003 while earning Coach of the Year honors.

Men's and Women's Cross Country

Tom Walton is a graduate of Hawthorne College (B.A./1971) and Rivier College (MA/1972) and will become the first head coach for our inaugural men's and women's cross country team. A noted certified personal trainer and very successful high school coach, Walton brings a wealth of experience and energy to the NHTI campus. His reputation in New Hampshire running circles is well known which should help NHTI transition from a club program to a full fledged intercollegiate athletic program.

Perry Seagroves is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire (B.S.) and the University of New England (M.S.). He joined NHTI as a professor of Physics and Chemistry in 1985. Seagroves has been a competitive runner for 25 years, and a coach of youth sports in basketball, baseball, and soccer. He also coached NHTI club hockey. He is also responsible for organizing and coaching NHTI's Running Club.

Men's and Women's Co-Ed Golf

Dave Edwards is a graduate of Babson College (1995 BS/Finance) and the University of New Hampshire (1998 MA/Literature, 2005 ABD/Composition). Coach Edwards is an avid golfer and a constant presence at the bi-annual NHTI Golf Tournament where his team competes for the NHTI school championship.

Men's Volleyball

Malee Irving is a graduate of the University of Vermont (1992/BS in Animal Science) as she takes over the head coaching duties after serving Doug Oxford as assistant coach for many years. Her playing and coaching experience has been a valuable asset to NHTI as the Capitals continue to build the foundation for a great program.

Dan Curren is a NHTI graduate (2001/AGS) (2003/CS) where he was the team captain and most valuable player for the NHTI men's volleyball team in 2003. Coach Curren joined the Capitals coaching staff last year after a fine collegiate career and he still is active in local men's leagues.

Women's Volleyball

Renee Zobel is a graduate of Wheaton College (2003/BS in Biology) and was a three-year member of the varsity volleyball team. Coach Zobel joined the NHTI staff in the winter of 2005 and is very involved in the Concord Junior Olympic program. She continues to enjoy playing volleyball in the Concord adult leagues.

Jimmy Leung is a graduate of the University of Hawaii, Manoa (1980/BS Civil Engineering). Coach Leung served as the Assistant Coach at Concord Christian HS from 2002-2004 under former NHTI coach Doug Oxford. From 2004 to the present, Leung has been a member of the Concord Regional Volleyball Club, where he is a coach. Leung has also served as Head Girl's Coach at Prospect Mountain Regional HS, in Alton, NH, and he was an assistant men's volleyball coach at NHTI in 2006-07.

Women's Softball

Kathy O'Connor is a Plymouth State University graduate (1993/BS in PE) where she played three varsity sports and was elected to the PSU Hall of Fame in 1993. Coach O'Connor joined the NHTI staff in the fall of 2004 specializing in outfield play and hitting instruction. Her extensive background as a softball coach at Concord High School and as an official of various sports helps to make her a valuable asset to the NHTI athletic family!

Deb Smith, Assistant Coach Women's SoftballDeb Smith, Assistant Coach

Deb Smith graduated from Ithaca University (1990/BS Television/radio production). Deb is going to be inducted into the Ithaca Hall of Fame for her performance in field hockey and softball. Deb was a two-time All-American field hockey sweeper while at Ithaca and also a key member of the softball team. Deb is also a graduate of Pembroke Academy, where she lettered for four years in field hockey, basketball and softball. Deb was the head coach of the NHTI softball team from 1998-03 leading the team to four league championships. She also served as the head softball coach for Pembroke Academy from 2003-05.


Ben Hill, Assistant Coach Women's BasketballBen Hill, Assistant Coach

Ben Hill is a graduate of Bryant College (1994/BS/Bus Admin) and serves as an assistant coach for the women's softball team at NHTI. Coach Hill is a former assistant at Pembroke Academy where he was a stellar two-sport athlete in baseball and basketball. In addition to his work at NHTI, Coach Hill is the varsity softball coach for the Red Raiders of Belmont High School, where he also teaches business courses. Coach Hill begins his fifth season with the NHTI women's softball team this fall.

Women's Soccer

Steve Ambra is a graduate of MacMurray College (1972/BA) Governor's State University 1974/MA) Simmons College (1995/MS), and Franklin Pierce Law Center (1980/JD) and has been the architect of the NHTI women's soccer team from the beginning of the program in 2000. Coach Ambra has recruited and developed the players wearing the Capital maroon and white finishing as the top small college team in New England from 2001-2006. This year the Capitals captured the YSCC title (sixth straight) while earning a fourth straight bid to the USCAA national tournament in Michigan.

Liz Dziobek is a 2006 graduate of NHTI with an Associate of Science degree in Addiction Counseling. A native Vermonter, Liz was an outstanding athlete in high school (Lyndon Academy in Lyndonville, VT) and at NHTI a multi-sport athlete in soccer and volleyball. She was a 2005 USCAA Academic All-American in soccer and was also the recipient of the Coaches Award in volleyball in 2005 and 2006. A tenacious and accomplished player, as a coach Liz works hard to improve individual skills within a team setting.

Dance Club Team

Audrey McFadden is a graduate of Plymouth State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration on Business and Dance. She has an extensive background in both dance instruction and choreography. Audrey has plenty of expertise consisting of tap, ballet, jazz, gymnastics, hip-hop and modern. She has taken master classes in Boston and NH, studying with such people as Aaron Tolson and Keith Clifton. She's competed both regionally and nationally, and has won numerous high score and '"special awards". She has taught at various studios in the area such as, The Ninth State (aka: Ballet Plymouth, or BP Studios), Broadway North School of Performing Arts, and currently Gen's Dance Studio, which is where she grew up studying her dance technique with director/owner Gen Woodward. Audrey is thrilled to be a part of NHTI's first ever Dance Team, and is very excited for the up and coming season.

Spirit Club Team

Casey Nameche is a former NHTI and SNHU Student with a background in Business and Sport Management. She has an extensive background in coaching and choreography in cheerleading, dance, and gymnastics. Some teams she has worked with include: NCA Staff, Celebrity Cheer, Granite State Gymnastics Center, Bow High School, etc. and has won numerous awards and titles. Casey will bring a lot of experience and expertise to this brand new NHTI program for the upcoming season.

Athletic Trainer and Strength/Conditioning Coach

Brian Rutherford, NHTI Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning CoachBrian Rutherford
Brian Rutherford graduated from the University of New Hampshire (BS/2005) with a degree in Kinesiology and specifically in athletic training. Brian's work has also made him a certified athletic trainer. Brain has served as the athletic trainer for the UNH men's hockey, men's basketball and track and field teams. Brain has also worked for Rehab 3 at Marshbrook, where he worked for Somersworth and Spaulding High Schools. Brian has gained multiple skills in the healthcare field including clinical experience, CPR certification, first aid certification, patient care and healthcare delivery. Brian currently works for PPTS in Concord and is employed through there by NHTI. Brian is CSCS certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Mike Lawton has been named the Sports Information Intern for the 2007-2008 school year. Mike is currently in his second year at NHTI and also serves as the president of the Sports Management Club. Mike is a graduate of Belmont High School in Belmont, NH. Mike also has experience interning with the Manchester Wolves and managing the souvenir store at New Hampshire International Speedway.

Christine Metcalf, NHTI Graphic Designer/Website CoordinatorChristine Metcalf, NHTI Graphic Designer/Website Coordinator
Chris joined NHTI in 1999 as the graphic designer and website coordinator for the college. She is responsible for NHTI's website, the NHTI Capitals website, and the 2006 USCAA National Men's Division II National Basketball Tournament website hosted here at NHTI. Her background in collegiate athletics includes past participation on the Board of Directors for the New England Collegiate Baseball League's Quarry Dogs where she was responsible for the Quarry Dog website, some of the marketing and worked on a volunteer basis helping almost every aspect of the production of their season.
