Sports Management Degree

Curriculum for students entering program in 2010-11.

The degree of Associate in Science in Business Administration with a Concentration in Sports Management will be awarded upon successful completion of the program.

The Business Administration - Sports Management program is designed for individuals with interests in careers that combine management skills and knowledge of the sports industry. The goal of the program is to develop well-trained business professionals who will enter positions in the administration or management of sports businesses or sports organizations.

Graduates have opportunities in the such career areas as:

  • Professional sports
  • Sports and fitness club management
  • Corporate sports marketing and promotions
  • Sports media
  • Facility and event management
  • Sports retail management
  • Sporting goods manufacturing and sales
  • Parks and recreation departments
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Amateur sports organizations
  • Sports travel and tourism

Sports is a multi-billion dollar industry in the United States, creating economic activity comparable to that being generated by the automobile, airline, and timber industries. Many career opportunities exist in sports-related fields, but such jobs require appropriate preparation. The thorough curriculum and relevant internship experiences offered by the Sports Management Program prepares NHTI students for immediate employment in the field, or for further studies on the baccalaureate or graduate levels. Transfer articulation agreements are in place with several four-year colleges, allowing our graduates to transfer to those institutions as juniors after completing their associate degree studies at NHTI.

The Sports Management program is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Specific Admission Requirements

  1. College preparatory course (or equivalent) in English and/or communications; good verbal abilities and writing skills are major considerations for acceptance into the program;
  2. High school Algebra I with a grade of “C” or higher or NHTI's MT 103 and MT 104, both with grades of “C” or higher.

Internship Opportunities

One of the major factors contributing to career success in the sports field is experience. Recognizing this fact, our Program includes an internship option for students. Numerous internship opportunities exist, not only in Concord and New Hampshire, but in other parts of the country for qualified and interested students. The faculty works with students to help them find internships in sports settings that interest them. During the internship, the student works as a regular employee for the sponsoring organization (most positions are non-paid, although some offer a small stipend), and reports directly to a supervisor within the organization. The goal of the internship is to provide a mutually beneficial "employment" experience for the intern and the sponsoring organization.

Below are some examples of internship opportunities offered to our students to date:

  • University of New Hampshire Athletic Department
  • Everett Ice Arena in Concord
  • New Hampshire Motor Speedway
  • Concord Chamber of Commerce Race Days Committee
  • NHTI Sports Information Office
  • Bay State Games of Massachusetts
  • New England Amateur Athletic Union
  • WKXL Sports Radio
  • New England Sea Wolves Arena Football Team
  • WMUR-TV Channel 9
  • National Flag and Touch Football League
  • .and many more!
